Prices run 15 – 20% lower than central Guangzhou, but add transport back. Most buyers hire a Lalamove van. Bargaining is expected and aggressive, especially for bulk buys.
Guangzhou International Textile City (广州国际轻纺城, the former Zhongda fabric market) — modernised, the go-to for curtains, bedding and decorative fabric. Metro Line 8, Sun Yat-sen University station (中山大学站); 09:00 – 18:00.

- Smart recycling boxes: found in many compounds — recycle small décor, glass and metal and get a small Alipay credit.
- Taobao / JD: when buying furniture online, tick "上门安装" (in-home assembly) at checkout, or the courier drops flat-pack boxes in the lobby and you assemble everything yourself.
Step-by-step: how to furnish your apartment
- Measure the corridors. Measure the lift and front door before buying — older Guangzhou buildings have narrower lifts than Western standards, and a non-flat-pack sofa often won't fit.
- Check Xianyu first. Browse second-hand; you can often buy a whole room's furniture from someone leaving the city.

Common mistakes
